Urban Renewal
By virtue of a participatory re-design program, it’s possible to attain tangible results – and renew ties between residents and the areas they frequent
Over the past 10+ years, Retake has organized numerous cleanup events in public spaces around cities, along the coasts and in parks in an effort to generate urban renewal and counter urban decay, with the added benefit of improving our society and urban environments.
Retake works through the concise coordination of citizen mobilization, educational programs and public-private partnerships centered around respect for and care of towns and cities and across myriad social contexts; all framed around the central principle of adhering to a flattened social organization, or subsidiarity.

We have three main objectives centered around urban renewal:
- Give abandoned places new life by giving them back to the neighborhood residents to use as places for social interactions and play
- Demonstrate through participatory, rational planning, along with an efficient use of resources that it is possible to achieve tangible results for the good of all
- Catalyze permanent change in urban residents by pushing them to see their public spaces with new eyes and imagine how they would want them, and then giving space for their ideas to be transformed into concrete results
For Retake, urban renewal is the motor driving the revitalization of entire areas and the key that opens up the enhancement of entire communities.
